Gold and Record for Tori
Day one of the national senior T/F champs got off to a great start for Finn Valley new recruit Tori Pena in the pole vault setting a championship best and and new Irish record of 4-15m to erase the old mark of 4m . She entered the competition under the guidance of coach Sean Carlin at 3.80m went clear then 4m went clear played safe at 4.05 to claim the record then clear at 4.15m failing at 4.25m . Great excitement from her family and friends who had travelled from Derry and Burnfoot including her grandmother . Tori no stranger to competing in Ireland but as an Irish dancer from her base in California some years ago .She has just now graduated from UCLA has a pb of 4-35m and been staying in Ballybofey recently with Finn Valley friends . So an excellent start to the champs and great to see so many supporters from the Valley club present .
Teresa Mc Gloin was in the frame for a medal in the 5k right until the final sharp end of the race 400m to go when she went off the pace to finish 4th in a pb track time of 17.04 in an event won by Maria Mc Cambridge from neighbouring Letterkenny a c . Also competing in this event Catriona Mc Granaghan good to see such a positive attitude from the Killygordon girl as she involves herself in the real competition of a national championship to be admired
