Ballyliffin Coastal Run gets off to strong start.
THe sky cleared and some 280 participants took to the road and beach in the Ballyliffin area Saturday for the inaugural 10 mile challenge supported by the local development group . Reaction was very positive from those that crossed the line tired but happy to have conquered what most described as a tough but beautiful challenge .THe race starter Barney Grant now in his 90th year got them underway on the dot of 2pm and the first man home Paul Ward from Ballyshannon was at the finish on the Pollen Beach just inside the hour at 58-10 having taken the lead at halfway followed by Martin Gormely ,Letterkenny 59-51:Garvin Walker ,Letterkenny 60-18;Tom Thompson,Finn Valley61-36 ;the first Inishowen man Martin Mooney 62-53;Finbarr Gallagher,Inishowen 63-04;Sean Mc Gettigan ,Finn Valley63-09;Martin McCrossan,63-25;First lady appropriately Carndonagh international representative Helena Crossan 65-23;next across the line with Zoe Meling from Dublin on 71-22 and filling 3rd spot Teresa Doherty the Clonmany teacher returning 71-57.
THe nominated charity Carndonagh Hospice expressed their thanks through their representative Gertie Monagle at the post event presentation in the Ballyliffin Hotel while the local Dev committee spokesman Des Kemmy thanked the many stewards and businesss interests that had provided invaluable assistence the Inishowen a c officials the Civil Defence etc. Patsy Mc Gonagle one of the race oganisers asked those present to spread the word re the race and ensure it is bigger and better in 2011.Again the event will hold its Easter Saturday date and strive to attract 500 as it grows
