Finn Valley AC 5km

Finn Valley AC hosting the latest of the Brian Mc McCormick sponsored grand prix series. 100 athletes turn out on a warm humid evening for the annual 5km, winning the race was David Wilson Donegal Town returning home from Chicago where he now lives. David being one of the most talented athletes to come out of Donegal, gaining a scholarship to university in Illinois USA after winning two National Juniors Cross country back to back and representing Ireland at the world Juniors having run 14.16. Just behind in 2nd place Kieran Carlin having a good run finishing in a time of 15.45, next across the line Gary Crossan Letterkenny AC 16.16. In the ladies Teresa Mc Gloin once again showing her dominance in the series, Teresa have a good run in the humid conditions crossing the line in a time of 17.49. 2nd lady home Catriona Devine running only her second race after giving birth to Daughter Ava, Catriona had an excellent time of 18.28 whilst Sharon Meehan Tir Chonaill AC crossed the line in 3rd 22.07. Kay Byrne winning the masters ladies race in a time of 19.12. Gloria Donaghey winning the master ladies 50+. Other notable performances were Adrian Gillespie in 10th place after getting a PB in Lifford Adrian clocked 17.27.
A big thanks to all who helped in the organising of the race, from Niall and his team to Brendan Mc Daid & Bridgeen Doherty who produced the results. The Marshal who made safe the course giving the athletes opportunity to run in a safe manor, and finally to those who make the vital tea, Coffee & Sandwiches.
The next race in the series will take place next Friday night in Rathmullen. Check in at the football pitch on the shorefront.
Congrats to Claire Devenney who race in the Carndonagh 5km and got 3rd place, Running 22.22 in only her 3rd race Claire taking over from mother Gloria’s who also race winning her category in a time of 23.11. Claire only training since February will look forward to running in the grand prix series hoping to reduce her times.
Sunday sees a number of Valley Junior travel to Tullamore to the National Junior & U-23 T&F Championships. Ian Ward, Pauric Mc Laughlin, Darren Mc Glinchey, Denis Healy, Shane Bonar and Ryan Mc Daid all hoping to amongst the medals. Ward will also hope to get the standard for the European Junior in the 1500m whilst Pauric Mc Laughlin hopes to follow on with his success at the Irish Schools.
All at Finn Valley AC wish to extend their sympathy to the Colette & Charlie Gallagher on the sudden death of Patrick Mc Bride, Father of Colette, May he rest in Peace.
