Donegal Town 5k

Former Youth Olympic silver medal winner Noel Collins was an impressive winner of the Tir Chonaill promoted and All Sports sponsored 5k race in Donegal Town on Friday night -5th June. The Omagh teenager broke from the pack in the last 1,000m and came home in a good time of 15mins 36secs. Finn Valley’s Ciaran Carlin, M40 filled second place, 15mins 44secs with Lerrkenny’s and soccer player Jonathon Patton, M35 in third place, 15mins 48secs. Junior Daren McGlinchey, Finn Valley in 4th place recorded 15mins .58 secs the same time as 5th placed Dominic Bonnar, M45. Michelle Harvey, Tir Chonaill, fresh form her exploits at the European clubs in Slovakia, was the first senior woman to finish. Her time of 17mins 14secs, in 18th overall position was a new course record.

The race had ninety finishers and an impressive array of category prizes for juniors, seniors, over 35/40/45/50/55 men and women. Prior to presentations and on behalf of the organising Tir Chonaill club Eamon Harvey, thanked the competing athletes, the sponsors and in particular All Sports Donegal Town, Tir Chonaill officials who marshalled the course, prepared food for everyone, the Garda Siochanna for their support and the Abbey Voc School Principal for use of facilities.

He also highlighted the success of the 2 Mile walk and 1 mile challenge events that were held on the new track prior to the 5k race
