Finn Valley Primary Schools Athletics Area Finals

The 39th annual Finn Valley area school sports held at the now familar venue in Stranorlar attracted a response from 22 schools close to 950 youngsters and despite the inclement weather of the period all went according to plan. THe event which began in another educational/social era at that time 1970 in the local Sean Mac Cumhaill GAA pitch something that Patsy Mc Gonagle has consistently acknowledged grew from a local youth club initiative to a county event to what it is today a tremendous fun well organised ocassion. The schools have responded and on this week over 2 days 950 youngsters experienced athletics many qualifying for finals at Finn Valley 11am next Wed.

Many talented youngsters come to the fore the impact of immigrant East European children is evident and an interesting aside was 3 Carlin cousins finishing in top 4 in 8oom representing different schools James Carlin (Dromore ),Jonathan (SMGS Lifford ),and Matthew ( Gleneely ). underlining a link to those early days when their grandfather John from the Crossroads was involved and more recently Sean Carlin was involved as an official threading practically an unbroken 40 years . A well organised event and thanks are due the following Students Finn Valley College, Seamus Mc Granaghan ,Grainne Mc Gowan ,Rosemary Mc Dermott, Noreen Bonner, Brendan Patton , Michael Penrose, Gerard Doherty, Clive Heapes, Peader Mc Granaghan , Noel Laverty, Brendan mc Nulty, Patsy mc Ginty , Mariosa Doherty, KIeran Carlin, Niall Mc Gonagle , Ann Murphy, Aiden Connolly, Seamus Mc Menamin, Rosaleen mc Gonagle, Neil martin, Paul Finn ,Tommy Thompson,Christine Feely.
