Mc Laughlin, Patton & Kelly wins National Titles

Finn Valley Athletes Pauric Mc Laughlin, Blaithnaid Patton & John Kelly wins their National title in Nenagh at the weekend. Pauric in the U-19 bys 1500m having an excellent run leading from the front, showing his talent Pauric having the confidence to take the race on from the gun, his wining time of 4.15.58 will set him up well for the outdoor season. Blaithnaid in the other hand taking the U-14 girls high jump title with a jump of 1.45, Blaithnaid struggled with her first few jumps but with her strength and determination she rose to the occasion jumping 1.45 in her final jump Blaithnaid secured her National Title whilst also getting a new Personal Best. John Kelly shattered the National U-14 Shot Putt title throwing 14m. John throwing over the previous National record in 5 of his 6 throws, the previous record being 12.15m. Coached by his father John senior, who’s no nonsense approach, proves that hard work and good discipline helps even the younger generation. Also having good performances in the Finn Valley colours were Mathew Kelly in the shot putt, Mathew finishing 3rd with a new PB 13.46m, Caiomhe Mc Menamin 3rd in the LJ also with a new PB 4.56m, Rebecca Ward 6th in the LJ with a new PB in 4.92m Rebecca also making the final of the 60m but getting injured in the process. Osin Gallen back on the second day after his long jump yesterday Osin showed his range of events by finishing 6th in the 600m. The final athlete running was Mark Bonar in the U-15 Boys 1500m, Mark just making it through to the final as a fastest loser proved his worth by just missing out in a medal by 1 sec.

A fantastic weekend for Valley Athletes in Nenagh, great attitudes, grit and determination, positive approaches and all showing the competitiveness needed for national Championships. This in turn sets the scene for the up coming outdoor Track & Field. Next weekend athletes travel to Magherafelt for the 2nd weekend of the Woodies DIY National Juv Indoors. Good luck to all.

Last weekend Gloria Donaghey got a new PB in the Omagh Half Marathon with a time of 1.45.58 well done Gloria.
