Armagh International Road Race Series

A number of Valley athletes travel to the Cathedral City of Armagh for the International Road Race Series. Athletes from several countries such as the USA, France, England of course Ireland. In the senior ladies Teresa Mc Gloin, Rona Loubser and Cliodhna Dunne all competed in the top class 3km race, Rona having a strong race coming through from 12th to finish 8th in a time of 10.07 and Teresa Mc Gloin using this race as a warm up for the National Senior CC In Santry next weekend Teresa crossing the line in 11th place in a time of 10.14, Cliodhna Dunne finishing in 47th in a time of 11.45.The ladies race won in impressive style by Kerry Harty in a time of 9.31 and Jemma Simpson England 2nd in a time of 9.40 Jemma better known as an 800m runner. The senior men's 5km race had a number of top class athletes with the likes of Mark Carroll, Vinny Mulvay, Chris Thompson and David Nightingale all bidding for the spoils, the hectic pace set in the stage was to be continued throughout the race, Ian ward and Darren Mc Glinchey wearing the valley colours also having a blow out before their national Juniors next week, Ian finishing in a time of 15.21 whist Darren had 16.13, In the last race of a very entertaining evening were the masters men, in the flat fast 3km course 3 Valley men took to the line, Kieran Carlin, Tommy Farrell and John Mc Glinchey. with the mixture of Juniors and masters athletes battling together this would be an interesting mix. Carlin battled well with the youngsters in the early stages whilst battling to the line would bring him home in an impressive 5th in a time of 9.11, Tommy Farrell run back on the surface he's more akin to having a good run in a time of 9.32, John Mc Glinchey a few second back also having a creditable run. Also, Gloria Donaghey, an avid competitor who is prepaired to travel where ever the race maybe, Gloria one again rewarded by getting a catogary prize and in a time of 13.20. well done to Gloria.

Next weekend see the final Cross Country Race of the Domestic calendar with the National Senior CC being held in Santry. with a number of Valley athletes racing and the by now vocal supporters it should be interesting.
