Carlin strikes gold at National Masters
Kieran Carlin returned to excellent form when winning the national masters 1500m title in Tullamore on Saturday and returned to the track to collect the silver in the 800m with a 2-03 return. An impressive outing which should set him up for a interesting winter as he will be tasked with leading a strong Valley masters group once again.
Dominic Bonner is never far away on these occassions and up he popped here to finish 2nd in the 5k and 3rd in the 1500m while Jim Hynes returned 22-16 to finish 3rd in his category.
James Mc Intyre recorded 16-11 just out of the medals and Kathleen Merritt who had travelled from England was hampered by a injury unfortunately. Drew Doherty ran a solid run in addition.
Meanwhile in Galway in the Streets Of Galway 5 mile, Teresa Mc Gloin continues to gain confidence and on this particular day finished 2nd behind Rosemary Ryan with Breege Connolly 3rd. Her time, a most respectable 28-37. Well done to all.
Athletes in the older age division at Valley should now be making their way back to training to prepare for the cross-country season ahead which begins with schools cross country at Finn Valley in the first days of October. Patsy continues his daily dairies on Patsy's Beijing Diary from olympics which have proved most popular.
