Michael Penrose Silver in Tullamore
The story this weekend was the medal performance of Michael Penrose at the final under age nationals of the year in Tullamore. A silver medal in the walk an encouraging result for him and his coach Ann McGill. One hopes that this boost will encourage this young man to grab this event, take no prisoners and engage in training relative to the distance he will now encounter at his age. So its decision time for the Aghyaran lad that won the Irish schools junior title a few short years ago. He is fortunate to have the total support of his family all of whom are closely associated with the sport. Well done once again.
Brian Doyle
Brian Doyle competing in the Cork City sports returned a time of 47.14 in a world class field and interestingly his reaction from the blocks was 0.176, the fastest, testifying to his sharp reaction from blocks. He hopes to medal at this weekends nationals and indeed is getting closer to a sub 46 sec time.
In Sympathy
Club sympathy is extended following the deaths of Andy Doherty, father of Drew, after a long illness. Also the sudden death of Kathleen McGlinchey, mother of John and grandmother of Darren. A terrible shock for the family so soon after the death of Jackie. May they rest in peace.
Congratulations
Finally heartiest congrats to Thomas and Catriona Devine on the birth of their daughter Ava. All at the club are delighted and wish them well.
