International Schools vest for Convoy athlete

Pauric Mc Laughlin a student at St. Eunan's College is the only Donegal athlete in the Irish Schools track and field team that competes next month in Bedford, England.

Competing for the Ulster schools team in Tullamore Saturday he finished 2nd in the 1500m steeplechase in a time of 4-47 to gain the spot and follow in the footsteps of Ian Ward and Shareen Mc Crudden on this team last season. His performance follows through on his medal winning outing in the Irish schools. Pauric came to the club having competed for St. Bridget's N S and at one time or other all his family have been involved in Finn Valley with tremendous ongoing support from their parents.

In the National under 23 championshipss Nicola Alcorn retained her strong record at national level with a gold in the walk. Good to see as she had health problems in the winter months.

While Aoife really got dug in in the junior walk to just miss out but the race will have set her up well for her age group championships next week in Antrim.

Paul Doherty medalled in the junior 110m hurdles with a bronze.

Recently Liam Merritt celebrated his 80th birthday with his family and friends. We wish him well, a man who was particularly involved in the early years of the club and attended national community games athletics on a few occassions in Mosney. In his younger days he was an Ulster champion cyclist. We wish him good health in the years ahead.
