Valley youngsters excel on home ground
The AAI Ulster 10--13 championships took place on
Sunday morning at Finn Valley with
an early 10am start. The local Valley children responded really well on their
home track.
In the U13 age bracket encouraging results from Michael
Gallagher javelin close to 30m and John Kelly shot 10.90m in what was a 1,
2, 3 for the home club.
Blaithnid Patton took the high jump with 1.33, while Caoimhe
Mc Menamin was right up their on the line in the hurdles but need to find
another few metres to win in nationals in July in Antrim.
Georgie Kelly had a
busy day and responded well and with a new confidence to take the Long Jump.
Olivia Roe
had the ordeal of qualifiers and then a final in the 600m a challenge
particularly as the heat was severe. She did well 1.53.6. The club are
blessed with a talented U13 age group girls.
In the U10 Niamh Mc
Granaghan with limited experience won the ball throw, while Amy Crossan and
Aoibheann battled it out for a medal in the 300m and Denver Kelly secured one
in the 300m.
Finally the 80m and a medal for schools champion Daniel
Browne.
Kyle Long had a good day winning high and ball throw and Eimear
Gilhooley gold in the shot with Gavin Mc Laughlin bronze shot and Peter
Sweeney showed how versatile he is with bronze in 80m.
Shane Brennan had a
storming run in the 500m taking silver with Pauric Patton on his
heels: 1-37.6 to
1-38.4. This is a good omen for cross country and finally
Leanne Kelly 80m and 600m.
Another great outing for the talented Kelly family. A big thank you to all
the officials and now its AAI Ulster 14-19 age groups in Antrim on Saturday
and Sunday.
Sympathy
Deepest sympathy is extended to the Mc Crudden family, Kinletter and the
extended Gallagher family on the untimely death of Gavin who only a few
years ago was national javelin champion. May he rest in peace and our
thoughts are with the family.
