Carlin Leads Valley Masters to Gold

Donegal Masters

Kieran Carlin opened the programme in Milford on Sunday winning the Donegal A.A.I. Masters title easily from club mate Dominic Bonner and it was good to see the Gweedore man back after a break. With Michael Perrose and Drew Doherty the club won the team title from Tirconnaill 21 against 30 with Inishowen 61.

Juvenile Uneven Ages

In the underage section it was uneven ages this week and teams gave a better account of themselves, silver u-11 boys and girls with Peter Sweeney the best individual, Rebecca Ward was involved in a determined struggle with Jessica Roberts’s u-13 girls before getting out ahead. The Valley u-15 boys responded well lead by Mark Bonner with Dean Bonner, Ryan Mc Nulty and Justin Browne scoring and they can improve before November 11th which is their Ulster date at Finn Valley.

Ailis Patton u-17 girls led her team to gold with Karen Ferguson in the silver position and in the equivalent u-17 boys Dermot Brennan did Valley well for third, indeed I thought it was his best effort ever! Ian Uland returning from a slight injury led Ryan Mc Daid, Diarmuid Fullerton and Shane Bonner to gold while Breda Mc Ginty was second in the u-19 girls but has many weeks, indeed months, of mileage, speed and speed endurance before we see the best of her in 2008. Breda has maintained a tremendous interest doing her rehab training while out of competitive athletics for 18 months.

North West Development Squad

This weekend it’s training, training and more of the same with a North West squad session at Valley, Sunday for invited athletes.

Armagh 10 Mile Road Race

Pat Hegarty 56.37 and John Mc Glinchey 56.06, Kay Byrne 65.12, the outcome of Armagh 10 mile road race, John 12th and Pat 13th Individual in a race won by Joe Mc Alister 51.38 and Maura Mc Cambridge won the women’s section while Kay won her age category and Pat 2nd 0-45. The senior and Master athletics are in Dublin this Sunday Gerry Farnan Memorial race which doubles as a Masters international trial.
