Donegal Novice CC Championships at Killybegs 6th October 2007.
Diarmuid Fullerton takes Donegal Novice Championships on his return
to competitive athletics.
Diarmuid Fullerton from Buncrana, a long time member of Finn Valley
returned to competitive athletics in the Donegal A.A.I. novice
cross-country championship on Saturday and duly took the title with a
strong aggressive display. Diarmuid had dropped out of the sport scene
years ago and will be pretty pleased with this comeback based on hard
work back at home in Buncrana and at sessions in the club. The silver
medal went to Enda Doherty now a student at D.C.U. who responded
stronger in the latter stages of the race when a bit of guts and
determination were required.
In the underage championship the U-10 section got what was a
disappointing day off to a good start, both U-10 teams winning led by
brother and sister Leanne and Denver Kelly. The U-12 girls had to give
way to an excellent Cranford team while U-12 boys led by Jonathan
Carlin took silver; Rebecca Ward was out ahead U-14 girls while Mark
Bonner continues to show a new enthusiasm as he chased the U-14 title.
Next Sunday it is uneven ages in Milford and Masters with a 12 noon
start while this year’s nationals have been fixed for the Curragh,
Kildare, on November and Dungarvan in December.
Transport again leaves 10am Sunday for Milford while the AGM is fixed
for Thursday night at 8.30. Membership is now due.
Teresa Mc Gloin finished 8th in the Rathfarnham 5K in a time of
17.28, just behind Catriona Jennings on 17.25, the leading woman
Deirdre Byrne 16.08 from Sli Chulaimn. While here in Donegal the
